Mogadishu [Somalia], September 16: At least 18 people have been killed in a bomb attack in the Somalian capital Mogadishu, police said.
Fighters from the Islamist terrorist group al-Shabaab detonated two explosive devices in the Kahda district, police officer Mohamed Dahir told DPA.
At least 10 other people were injured. The bombs were hidden on a street with a popular viewpoint, Dahir said. A group of young people had been taking photos there at the time of the attack.
Al-Shabaab controls parts of the impoverished country in the Horn of Africa, but has been pushed back from the capital in recent years.
However, attacks on government facilities, hotels and restaurants in Mogadishu have increased again in recent months. Most recently, 10 people were killed when a car bomb exploded in Mogadishu on August 21, while 11 people were killed in a terrorist attack on a restaurant in the capital in mid-August. (DPA)
